The Links at Cottonwoods is an 18-hole resort golf course located in Tunica Resorts, Mississippi.
A Hale Irwin-design, Cottonwoods first opened for play in 1998.
The course has a Scottish links feel. with gentle rolling fairways, three lakes and beautifully landscaped cart paths. It required more than 3,000,000 cubic yards of imported soil, to create the rolling fairways.
The greens are creative, some are split by imaginative mounding, creating a triple-green effect. They are also very large, averaging 8,500 square feet.
Accurate shot placement is key to scoring well. That sounds easy enough until you factor in the 15-20 m.p.h. winds and multiple water hazards.
The closing 3 holes are particularly memorable.
#16, a 185 yard par-3 is the signature hole. It features a multi-tier green situated on a large island.
#17, a 515 yard par-5 has water down the entire hole on the right. The green has a huge slope that feeds right to left away from the trouble. While the slope can help keep you out of trouble, the severe slope can also make a two challenging.
#18, a 445 yard par-4 that usually plays into the prevailing wind. The hole has a three-tiered green guarded by three bunkers.
Blue tees, par-72, 6,992 yards, 72.3 / 119
White tees, par-72, 6,561 yards, 70.7 / 118
Red tees, par-72, 5,250 yards, 69.8 / 116
The course, owned by Harrah's Tunica, closed in 2014.
